Since 2019, Canada has seen the implementation of strict new gun control laws including the freezing of handgun sales and the prohibition of a long list of 'assault-style' rifles. But have these changes made Canadians safer? Drawing on extensive interviews, publicly available data and recent scholarship, Schwartz evaluates the failures of these laws, documents their harms, and proposes alternatives like community policing and violence interruption programs.
